Podcast Research

Which podcast did you choose to listen to and why? How did the host's delivery (pitch, pauses, rate of speaking, and volume) impact the overall effectiveness of the podcast? Was a podcast the best way to communicate this information, or would a video presentation have been more effective?

The podcast I chose to listen to was episode 57 of Crime, Conspiracy, Cults, and Murder. The reason why I chose this particular podcast is because I am interested in true crime/history  and enjoy consuming media regarding it. The host of this podcast is a popular tik toker, which drew me in to her content and I have been a fan of this particular podcast ever since. Since Kallmekris is a popular media creator her overall delivery was very over dramatic and boisterous, meant to catch your attention with visuals and facts that keep you interested. Overall Kallmekris’ delivery kept me interested throughout the podcast, despite the rather macabre content, she manages to approach these topics with the needed respect while still pitching her voice to be a convincing host. Kallmekris podcast offers both a visual and audio experience, her podcast showcasing clips from holocaust survivors and pictures to back up her statements about the experiments done to the human mind.

Who/what was the intended audience for this podcast?

The intended audience for this particular podcast is young adults, Kallmekris’ vocabulary and delivery meant to appeal to the Gen Z audience. She adds jokes throughout the delivery of the facts to ease the tension or heaviness of the content. Due to her being caught up on what type of language and media appeals to the gen z audience due to her time as an influencer she knows what topics and jokes that will best appeal to her general audience and viewers, the general humor from her tik tok videos coming into the podcasts overall content. I believe that these particular delivery techniques are extremely useful, her down to earth vocabulary and joke incorporating kept me engaged throughout the one hour and 42 minute podcast. She kept me entertained which I hope to do with my own personal podcasts, while I do not think I can be quite as in depth in the visuals as her podcast, due to my extremely low level of knowledge of video editing I at least hope I can engage my audience through relating to them on their level and finding ways to be engaging and entertaining.

Reflect on your overall listening experience. What did you learn about the importance of delivery in audio podcasts, and how will this influence your approach to creating your own podcast?

My overall listening experience for this podcast was a 10/10. I love Kallmekris’ content and podcasts, she is engaging enough to where I keep coming back to her podcast and watching it. I learned how important it is to have the correct delivery. Having a stiff or robotic delivery can leave the audience bored and unengaged when reviewing Floyd’s writing he stresses the importance of putting your best foot forward when engaging with employers, through proper language and communication skills I believe that I will incorporate some of his interviewing tips and tricks within this podcast to be sure that I am engaging my audience with my best self while showing my credibility through my research. I plan on making my podcast engaging to my audience while still highlighting my scholarly topics in an appropriate language my audience will understand and want to listen to.

About Me

Hello all,  My name is Mackenzie Beasley and I am currently a psychology major but plan on switching into a forensic/mortuary program. I grew up here in Oregon within the Beaverton hillsboro area, right now I currently live in Corvallis and am going to school in the main OSU campus. I have never taken a communications class before and am admittedly a bit nervous to do so but i'm hoping it will be a good experience and will help me within my career path. I primarily use instagram and tiktok to communicate with others online, I use these two due to their easy access and popularity, many of my friends use these apps and I can easily get in contact with them. One fun fact about myself is that I like to cross stitch and draw. Below you will find pictures of my cat, I look forward to getting to know you all. :]

Prensky’s/Kirschner Resear

 1. Voice  to Prensky, what is the immigrant/native divide, and how has it affected how students learn?       According to Prensky, the immigrant/native divide is the disconnect between the Newer generation of young Native Americans and immigrants having a disconnect from the older generation regarding learning and schooling. Prensky states that both digital Immigrants and natives were born from a saturated world, and it is therefore naturally integrated within the way that they think and learn. The disconnect comes from how these digital native and immigrants are taught within an academic setting. Most newer generations want a fast-paced rich learning media tool that could help build real world learning experiences, however Many of these classes are still being taught by the older generation where the teaching is outdated and rather than having fast pace, learning topics or medias, they stick to a Lecture based learning Curriculum, and thus many students h...
